Bhajji Provoked!

Harbhajan Singh allegedly slapped Sreesanth after losing the IPL match. Sreesanth was seen crying bitterly on the ground. For all of us who stood with Bhajji when he was accused of being racist, this incidence came as a shock. Symonds is not a villain anymore. Hayden’s outburst against Bhajji doesn’t sound rude now. Harbhajan has let us all down.
When Indians and some Australian critics blamed the Australians and gave a clean chit to Harbhajan they
overlooked Bhajji’s past record. Cricket is becoming aggressive by the day but being aggressive does not mean one has to behave like a school kid. After playing in the international arena for more than a decade he can do better. Bhajji needs to learn to lose gracefully. In his interest and the for the sake of the country’s image he should be given an extensive break from top level cricket to concentrate on controlling his temper.
IPL has benefited Cricket( I still have my reservations about T-20 being called cricket) not just the players. It has led to true globalization of cricket. National boundaries have been blurred and loyalties have changed even if they are for a short time. Shane Warne is a hero and we can appreciate his captaincy without feeling bad for the victims, who were normally our guys because our focus in cricket was limited to games played with India. When Symonds looked helpless against Warne, let me confess old bias against Symonds made me happy(not for cricketing reasons alone). Not anymore.
It is high time BCCI takes some action against Harbhajan otherwise he will end up hurting himself. Looks like Shoib Akhtar has competition. Bhajji’s past record proves that-
During his maiden international ODI series Harbhajan was slapped with a hefty fine and a reprimand after a heated exchange with Ponting.
He was expelled from the National Cricket Academy in mid-2000. Later he admitted that he was at fault.
In 2005 he called coach Greg Chappell as someone who used ‘double standards’ and was served a show cause notice by the BCCI and had to apologise.
The recent controversy with Symonds and Hayden was the highlight of the Gavaskar Border trophy this year.
The whole nation rallied behind Harbbhajan but this time he physically assaulted a teammate and cannot expect sympathies. Sreesanth crying bitterly on the ground after the incident was not a pleasant sight. Sree may call him an elder brother and the off-spinner may have apologised for his behaviour but this is a matter of the image of the country. He should face some tough action and should not get away lightly. Before the tournament started,

  • This is shameful! And you are right. I think he will find it harder to find sympathy after this. I feel bad seeing Sreesanth crying.

  • well no,w how are they going to play for India together?

  • It reflects abdly on India as the whole world is watching because if the popularity and marketing of the IPL.

  • And all that time I thought Sreesanth was a tough guy :(

  • So much for sportsmanship. Its just so easy to divide people.

  • I think it’s trivial thing blown out of proportions

  • Rahul,it is not about Bhajji or Sreesanth. It is about India and the millions of Indians who stood with him during the racism controversy. He has shown to the world that we were wrong in supporting him.He physically assaults a player because he has been provoked!this is not a trivial issue.
    Thanks Amit.
Ammar,Sree is a tough guy.It is not easy to forgive a and forget especially when somebody slaps you in front of millions of people.
You are right @ nestaquin.Welcome and thanks.
Yes Vishesh, they are going to play for India if Bhajji is not banned for life.

Shefaly,It was really sad to see Sreesanth crying.

  • What was the need to cry? I don’t get it. Someone died? Someone cut his hand off? What’s wrong with Sreesanth?! He should be penalized for creating unnecessary drama and for spoiling the image of IPL.

  • its a shameful act

  • Its soo surprising to see thae bubbleonfire’s comments.. People can cry only when smeone dies.. Hey.. Dont be silly dear… Be a human being.. Not a Pentium processor..

  • “It is about India and the millions of Indians who stood with him during the racism controversy. He has shown to the world that we were wrong in supporting him”

    Absolutely!

  • I was just reading Dhoni’s article in the HT regarding this row , and he says, until all facts come out in open, it wont be prudent to be judgmental based on newspaper reports. I tend to agree with him..
Although Sreesanth seems like another irritating joker among the current cricketing lot,, if Bhajji had slapped him- no matter what the provocation was- I have no sympathy for the impatient turbanator. He is going to pay for his silly and unpardonable act this time..for sure.

  • Totally agree with u. Even my thoughts are on the same lines. Check out : http://radhesh.wordpress.com/2008/04/27/harbhajan-slaps-sreesanth/

  • I agree with one who said this puts India into bad light. And Sree Shanth is no less, this whole thing could be other way round. Also, if he keeps on giving in to cry onscreen, he’s gonna have beautiful experiences abroad. Shows that he too needs to grow up and learn to have a taste of his own medicine like a man.

  • yeah - I was feeling sort of the same. he does seem like a way bigger jack-ass than Symonds and Hayden. And I thought I would never say that :) ! I say lose the idiot - we don’t need his like. And he is not even that dominating a player!

  • I agree with you Rohith.R. It is a big deal bubbleonfire.Sresanth is a human and death is not the only reason to cry.
    Thanks JB.
I agree with you @ lallopallo.we have to see the other side of the story too.The refree has come to conclusion after watching coverage of 25 different cameras that there was no immediate provocation.//He is going to pay for his silly and unpardonable act this time//Bhajji has paid for his volatile temper.
You are so right Arunk.Symonds and Hayden are not the villains anymore.

  • Thanks Radhesh and Poonam Sharma.

  • It was very very kiddish!!
Both of them behaved in a very immature manner!

  • ipl 20/20 is not a gentlemen s game MIND IT!!!
it is about sensationalizing the game of cricket my friend an ardent fan in now confused - whom does he support?
And Bhajji was provoked by shree shant is what the rumor mill says - as it is he was playing for punjab and teasing and abusing bhajji on that line..
