Aussies Don’t lie, Do they?

Two Indians VS Two Australians, no video or audio proof and Bhajji is hanged.

Saurav Ganguly was given out on a dropped catch by Michael Clarke. The TV cameras clearly showed that the ball had landed on the ground before going into the hands of Clarke. There was an appeal for caught and Umpire Mark Benson asked the fielding captain Ricky Ponting and after the skipper’s decision, gave Ganguly out. Umpire Benson asks Ricky Ponting instead of the Square leg umpire or the third umpire because Australians don’t lie…

I am not talking about the 6 other wrong decisions. Thanks to the TV cameras everybody saw it but I am outraged about the racist slur cast on Bhajji. Nobody can claim that cricketers are angels or Indian Cricketers are saints. Australian cricketers are known to be worst sledgers in the game and all of a sudden they are the victims of racism. Symonds should get psychological treatment for hearing monkey calls.

  • I totally agree with you on this one. Symonds should really get his ear checked. Now everybody who tries to talk to him is racially abusing him. He was nobody some years back and now he’s really popular and he’s using his popularity and position in a totally negative way. I’m thinking the Indians should boycott the tour and come back. There’s no use sticking in there.

  • I am not a sports fan but I was outraged too Prerna and was thinking of blogging about it. But I knew you would and checked your blog! I was planning to write something like this:

Although I am not an avid follower of cricket I have been following the racism controversy avidly. Will or won’t Harbhajan be convicted of abusing Symonds? He won’t be I kept telling myself. It was so obvious from the clip shown that Harbhajan was surprised at Symond’s reaction to his remark, whatever it was. That itself should have been reason for him to be considered innocent. But no he was charged and horror of horrors, two Australian players said they would testify. And now we hear Harbhajan has been banned. I don’t believe for a moment that he called Symonds a monkey. He hasn’t quite lost his mind!
This stinks. The whole thing just stinks to high heaven.
Why in the world should Harbhajan be found guilty without concrete evidence? Their words against ours. There can be only one answer, at least to my mind. Racism on the part of the wise men who made the decision. Racists usually don’t even realize they are being racist. They are so convinced that they are right.
I am really glad that India has boycotted the match. I just hope they stick to their guns. Enough is enough.

  • I was also thinking of blogging on this, but gave up: it was so outrageous and obvious! I am, of course, talking of the umpiring.
As far as the racist issue is concerned, my personal feeling is that Harbhajan did say the M word, but the rationale for the charge being considered ‘proven’ is something I don’t understand.
I am sure Aussies have got away with worse things in the past, so it is an unequal world, but then, the world should hold itself responsible for allowing them to get away with it.
    Nita: India boycotted which match?

  • Rambodoc,it wasn’t umpiring, it was something else.1 or 2 decisions might go wrong but for 7 wrong decisions either the umpire was blind and deaf or there was a malafide intention.Even if Bucknor was physically incapable of taking the right decision(in case ICC is forcing him to stay in the game)what prevented him from consulting the third umpire? All this use to happen before the neutral umpires came in the gentleman’s game but this is beyond comprehension now with neutral umpires and so many technological advances. There was one umpire Shakoor Rana known for such crazy decisions but that was before the age of neutral umpires.Australians play like gladiators not cricketers.
As far as Bhajji is concerned I would trust Sacchin and Kumble who have proved to be gentlemen even in this age. Kumble summed it up very nicely “only one team played in the spirit of the game”

  • Nita, I agree with you//Why in the world should Harbhajan be found guilty without concrete evidence? Their words against ours. There can be only one answer, at least to my mind. Racism on the part of the wise men who made the decision. Racists usually don’t even realize they are being racist. They are so convinced that they are right//
The match cancelled so far was a practice match in Canberra. The decision about the other two matches hasn’t been taken so far.

  • Ish, boycotting the series is a very big decision. It involves diplomatic relations between the two countries.Australians use their resources very well. They are using their only non-white player very well.

  • well as a Pakistani iam not a huge fan of the indian cricket team(But V.V.S Laxman still remains my all time Fav batsman), specially after you guys stole the 20/20 cup from rite under our respective pompous noses :) BUT on this issue iam totally with you guys.I was watching the match and I was outraged,Those seven decisions were definitely biased and certainly withheld India from winning that match.India has been wronged!

why dont you guys start an online petition, get some signatures and send it to the ICC? that may very well make them consider their policies towards Ausi Cricket,After all India still remains the country which generates more than half of ICC’s revenue!

  • I know it’s a big decision but by staying there, aren’t we merely humiliating ourselves? We’ve got everything against us and still we’re not really protesting against it. At least the Australians deserve to know what they’re doing is not cool and we’re not fools to you know..accept everything they do.

  • [...] about this, and in fact left a rather long comment on Prerna’s post, which was aptly titled, Aussies don’t lie, do they. But I cannot stop myself any longer. I feel really angry at what has happened. What’s [...]

  • it will be interesting to witness the upcoming events. will this dispute will put an end to the authoritative dominance of the Aussies in the world of cricket or Indians and other teams of Asia will allow them to bully us for the rest of our cricketing days.

  • ish, the decision of staying there and fighting injustice is proving to be a better decision.
Ammar,Bucknor is out, so half the battle is won.It is difficult to ignore the BCCI now.Indians generate 60%of the ICC revenues as @shiny87 said.
Thanks Nita for referring my post.
