The first ever world cup for 20-20 begins in South Africa. It has entertainment and excitement, it is a hit and giggle game, it is a bowler’s nightmare and 20-20 is here to stay. It has filled up empty cricket stadiums around the world and fans love it.
All this sounds exciting but can we call it by some other name? It is not cricket.

Did you see the first match between S. Africa and W. Indies? Awesome! They should stop one dayers now…total waste of time. This is much more value for money, and that is the name of the game!

You are right rambodoc this is value for money. I did see the game.Chris Gayle was on fire. Awesome! What happens to the spinners? They will be used as fodder for the batsman.
Super cricket is a good name @rav. Thanks for the visit.

Seeing how economics and politics are influencing the game worldwide, I might just as well call it “Crook it”

Ammar, Will it be Dhoni VS Asif now, that Shoib Vs Tendulkar not possible.
You realy missed a great inning nitin.
I enjoy matches without Indian team because no emotions are involved. You see cricket because of cricket and not for emotional reasons.

I don’t know what to make of this yet. I can see the entertainment value but I think for it to sustain – all the players have to have something to look forward. Here, why even have regular bowlers? I mean which bowler wants his behind creamed regularly for entertainment ? Do bowlers really look forward to 20-20?
The main reason 20-20 is a hit is that people want to see reckless hitting i.e. 4s and 6s. They are not interested in seeing how the bowler outwits the batsmen.
So I say just bring on amateurs or better yet come up with a machine – like the ones they use for tennis practice. Make it throw some easy ones that guarantee monster sixers and thundering fours.
BTW, I think this is similar to a (nowadays) yawner called “home-run derby” in baseball world in the US. I think it used to be popular way back, but now it is relegated to a small spectacle once a year.

//So I say just bring on amateurs or better yet come up with a machine – like the ones they use for tennis practice.// I am with you Arunk on this.
Ammar .Dhoni is a tough guy and in any case as this Pathan told me in Dubai- ‘Pakistanis can handle everybody except Dhoni and Sehwag’. I am not so sure of Sehwag anymore so lets see
I wish he doesn’t
