Joseph, has anything changed since then?

I watched the first half of this excellent movie, Joseph, thanks to my daughter who virtually forced me to watch this with her, it’s one of her favourite films. The film ‘Joseph’ is an old classic based on the Biblical story of Joseph from the Old Testament. Ben Kingsley and Paul Mercurio play the main lead roles. Ben Kingsley is brilliant as ever. Paul Mercurio looks very cute. The depiction is so real that you can actually picture their Nomadic way of life. We should thank our stars that we weren’t born in those difficult times. There are few things that I realised haven’t really changed since then-

The cruel treatment of the prisoners in Pharaoh’s prison- Is Abu Ghraib or Guantenamo Bay better?

The conniving women (Potiphar’s wife)- in our daily soaps women play the same role.

Joseph’s father Jacob loves his younger wife more than the older one and favours the children born to his younger wife (Joseph and Benjamin). The elder one’s are jealous- It would be the same today I guess. In the story the reason they give for favouring Rachel’s children, is the righteousness of Joseph. Benjamin is the son of his old age.
Nobody questioned the head of the tribe, Jacob, for marrying twice. He is an old man and his second wife is a beautiful young lady. People in power get away with so many things even these days. Clinton got away with the” Monica” affair. In the Middle East most of the monarchs have more than one wife even now.

Anyway, the first half was excellent. My daughter and I are going to watch the second half now. Expect it to be just as good.
