Dreaming with Open Eyes

What a way to start a day? Though for one who is addicted to reading or listening to news first thing in the morning it happens quite often. First the headlines: Tata wins CORUS bid, everybody is elated. Same Indian patriotic feeling, we can beat the world. India has arrived. The next news communal tension in Indore. You don’t know what to feel. For God’s sake let us be happy sometimes. We Indians are a contented lot we search for reasons to be proud of our country. Some far away land somebody remotely connected to India or better still has 1/6 of Indian blood does something  we claim our  share of glory. Sania Mirza is among the top 100 women tennis players in the world, our happiness is apparent. In a country of a billion people we get 1 medal in the Olympics and still we don’t lose hope- we are talented people, some day we will get over the red tapism and political interference, then we will be unstoppable. The only thing that we cannot overcome is this communal frenzy generated by our rotten political class.

Elections are nearing in UP and you can see these ugly scenes. It is no surprise that no politician, so called communal or secular or for that matter his son or daughter or a near or dear one is hurt in communal violence. Babri Masjid demolition and it’s aftermath scores of Muslims and Hindus die,  no politician worth his name is injured. I really really want happy news only, at least for a week. It could be like India won the Cricket World Cup, Babri Masjid problem solved, Kashmir problem solved (some autonomy granted), all corrupt politicians surrender and the list is endless. Not all but please God grant some of the wishes. At least the communal violence ends and we can live happily like friends.

This is an emotional outburst. God heard me, we won the ODI series against West Indies and Sachin Tendulkar is back in form. I am an optimist someday God will listen to me and there will be peace in the world. Temples, Masjids, and Churches will coexist  and we will apreciate each other’s point of view.

  • I find you very optimistic, little bit too much. :) If only 1% of Indian population think your way we could perform miracles.

  • It is frustating. So much good happening still bad news keep on disturbing us every day.I don’t know whether you will believe me but there was a time before globalisation started I actually used to look for good news in the news paper and for days there was nothing to feel good about.Things are much better. I hope they will improve further.

  • Your post took me to a wonderland where there are no conflicts and there are no problems to be solved.

We should appreciate the enthu of Indian public that just once medal keeps our hopes alive. But it is sometimes humiliating when we feel proud of someone’s achievements, someone who is just remotely connected to India!

  • Aren’t we amazing people. Sachin scores 1 century and everybody is talking about winning the world cup. It is sad when we have to look outside in search of icons but I am sure better days will come. Things are improving but if we could pack all our corrupt, greedy and selfish rogues (politicians) in a suitcase and next time when a satelite launcher leaves for outer space dump that suitcase in it would work as a catalyst.
    Thanks for dropping by.
