Jade Goody granted Tourist Visa

After all that ruckus in the last fortnight about Jade Goody and her racist remarks come the reconcilatory news. She has been granted tourist visa to visit and and see for herself that all Indians don’t live in slums and have proper names. Somebody who saw this show in the UK mentioned  Jade calling Shilpa “Shilpa whatshername, Shilpa Poppadum”. I found that hilarious. Perhaps she knows India by her cuisine only. Never mind, there is something good she found out about us. We can build on that and find something more to interest her. Poor woman, she has suffered enough for her loose words, we should let go. She has apologised and that is enough.
Now comes our responsibility. In the true spirit of Gandhigiri we should treat her well, so that she forgets the nightmare she went through for hurting the Indian ego. It is difficult to get away when you hurt 1\6 of the world population. We can put up with corrupt politicians, gender bias, caste politics and so many other things but you dare step on our ego we chant “Mera Bharat Mahan”. I pray to God that my worst fears don’t come true and there are no protesters and marchers chanting anti-Jade slogans when she enters India. We are publicity hungry people and this sort of protest will sure attract media attention. Some political party or leader with sagging political future may want to make use of the event. Our tourism ministry has invited her, promising to show her the actual India and so she should be a welcome guest in the true spirit of ATITHI DEVO BHAVA.

May good sense prevail and we are able to welcome and send her off peacefuly and sensibly.

  • Well well, Shilpa “Poppadum” has won the big one! I don’t think anyone should care about Jade Goody anymore- in fact when she comes here, if anybody recognises her or cares to give her attention, they will probably be extra-nice to rub in her defeat and Shilpa’s victory. If Shilpa had lost, it would be a totally different scenario.

In the country where they beat up a foreign coach for lack of Orissa players in the cricket team.. I would not be surprised if Jade Goody got beat up if Shilpa lost. But now she has won, everything should be smooth for us and for them. lol

I like being Indian and this country is nice but sometimes we act like crybabies (the politicians instigate the masses like you mentioned, everyone has something to gain by controversy).
We will play with anybody as long as we get to bat. lol. Good time for Jade Goody to visit, while Shilpa has the bat.

  • I have not understand the entire episode. I believe everything was planted, anyway end good, all good.

  • I am fascinated that aside from the obvious language/culture/appearance differences, how much alike we are across the world. In the U.S. the news has turned into entertainment and the shorter the story the better. Everyone wants quick and catchy stories no longer than 60 seconds. Aaaaaaaaah! I would love to hear more than a bit of sound that encapsulates the story. I want to hear the uninteresting truth and depth. We edit the video to show the angle we want to show and to get the flashiest part. No doubt that happened on Big Brother also. I don’t watch the show but have seen the stories on our entertainment news shows. Every evil is magnified and every good is diminished. Producers pick what will draw more viewers and edit the video to arrange it. Scary.

  • Nicely put. Don’t forget, but forgive and move on.

  • Thanks Tim for the visit and comments.I am sure everything is forgotten and forgiven, there are much bigger issues to be taken care of.
