misintrepretration of religion

Islam is the most misunderstood religion in the world after 9/11.I was reading an interview by Shireen ebadi the Nobel peace prize winner 2003.She was asked whether every tenet of Islam could be followed in today’s world, she replied and every word of hers made sense to me.This is what she said-

“Many Islamic laws like stoning to death are not even there in the Koran,but some laws need to be discussed.For example koran says during Ramadan a muslim must fast from sunrise to sunset.It’s easy to do so in Iran or Saudi Arabia where the days and night are equal.But if a muslim goes to North pole can he fast for 6 months so a third way is needed and is offered by Islam.The secondry law says implement the law in the spirit.In this case divide the day in 3 parts use 1 for fasting.

Don’t fear Islam fear the dictators who hide behind the flag.In the name of Shariat people justify rape,forced marriage,unlawful talaq(divorce).Islam has different intrepretations in different countries.In Saudi arabia a woman can’t drive even,in Bangladesh and Pakistan there have been women Prime ministers.Stoning to death is permitted in Iran and Saudi arabia but banned in Tunisia,Indonesia,Malaysia and so many other countries.

The devil lies in the intrepretation and not in the religion.The spirit behind the religious teachings should be understood and not the words.I used Islam as an example but this is true about all religions of the world, they all teach love, care and other good things.
